Before the official beginning of GEOWEEK2022, a pre-workshop series will be conducted to attract the general public to the stream of Geospatial Science. It is a key component in the event to popularize the event among the masses and the school student community. GIS-related awareness will be popularized through the applications of ArcGIS, QGIS, and SuperMap. These workshop series will be conducted by industry leaders and professionals in their field of expertise from the Faculty of Geomatics, of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. Those who participate in this special workshop chain will be cherished with a certificate.
The event is organized with the intention of making “map-reading” a general life skill, specifically targeting the younger generation of society. The theme of the event is “Geomatics to all” through which the event addresses the basic idea of a map targeting the school kids and the students will be provided with a stance to prepare a map according to their close proximity. With that, the children will gain a practical exposure to mapping, basic concepts of map creation and what kind of readings they can gain through a map. Through the event, the kid will gain sufficient practical awareness of the landforms and boundaries.
The event will be covered through experts’ knowledge of various subjects of geospatial science. This will be a sound platform for the school students’ community to learn difficult concepts in a very simple manner from the staff of the Faculty of Geomatics. This opens up doors for the younger generation to utilize geospatial sciences in practical aspects of life.
