Island Wide Mapping Competition 2022

The Faculty of Geomatics of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka annually organizes the GEOWEEK 2022 with the prime intention of educating the public masses regarding the practical use of Surveying Sciences.

Objective

The primary objectives of this competition are to educate pre-schools kids and school students on Map Drawing principles and to instruct them on utilizing a map in an effective manner.

About Competition

This competition will be conducted under three major categories. First, Second, and Third place winners will be selected from each category. Outstanding winners will be awarded attractive gifts and merit certificates and the map evaluation will be done by a panel of judges from the Faculty of Geomatics.

Important Dates

All the participants are expected to submit their maps on or before 25th of November 2022.
An introductory session will be conducted on 19th November 2022 via Zoom.

Instructions for Map Drawing and Submission

• • Categorization – Pre-school kids, Primary and Secondary school children
• • Each map should be handcrafted and drawn on an A3 (11.7 X 6.5 inches) paper.
• • Watercolors/ Pastels and Colors Pencils can be used to craft the map.
• • One student should not submit more than one map.
• • The Map should be drawn by the student himself/herself and should not be submitted for any other competition.
• • The submissions that are not followed according to the said rules and regulations will not be entertained.
• • Scanned or photographed maps should be converted into jpeg mode and should be submitted along with a letter (pdf) certified by the Principal/Wise Principal/Class teacher including the name of the student/ school / and grade.
